Staffing during silly season!

Under the NES, employees have a workplace right to reasonably refuse to work on a public holiday. With the silly season upon us we have some key public holidays which may impact the operations of your business due to when they fall. This year there are no ‘long’ weekends which may influence how you staff during the public holiday period. The key holidays are:
- Tuesday 25 December – Christmas Day
- Wednesday 26 December – Boxing Day
- Tuesday 1 January – New Years Day
To avoid being caught out this silly season we recommend you check your award to confirm requirements around substituting public holidays and understand how to manage reasonable requests. If you are unsure, give us a call!
Don’t be silly and apply influence or pressure on an employee while confirming the substitute day or you may be left short on staff and money…
